The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:

Position:  Teacher Leader - BMC Durfee High School

 
Job Description:  The Teacher Leader at Durfee will improve learning outcomes for students by facilitating professional learning community meetings for staff focused on supporting the school and team’s teaching and learning initiatives.
 
Performance Responsibilities:

  • Teach 2 periods per day as determined by the building principal within area of licensure
  • Promote the development of a professional learning community among teachers in the school
  • Assist teachers in planning for, reflecting on and analyzing their practice and reviewing student work to inform instruction and enhance student achievement
  • Lead data inquiry teams and supporting other teachers in the analysis and use of data
  • Facilitate professional development around specific school needs
  • Facilitate various school teams such as: ILT’s, SST’s, Grade Level Team meetings, Common Planning Time
  • Regularly confer with staff and facilitate opportunities for the observation of exemplary practice and model lessons
  • Model teaching methodologies
  • Assist staff in identifying instructional resources, additional support and appropriate professional development in the school community as well as the district
  • Maintain and submit documentation of professional development activities through X2 staff information system
  • Participate in extensive professional development, job embedded and outside of workday, focused on skills and strategies that support teacher development and student achievement. Skills such as : leading effective teams, data strategy implementation, “turnaround” proficiencies
  • Review, design and develop school-based curriculum as assigned
  • Help teachers in various stages of their development identify their progress against standards for teaching proficiency, by engaging in non-evaluative conversations about their practice, using evidence of classroom practice and student learning.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean or Associate Principal

 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching experience
  • Valid Massachusetts educator license, grades 9-12
  • Familiarity leading professional development or creating other learning opportunities for teachers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the teaching and administrative staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, ensuring all students have access to the highest quality instruction, and closing the achievement gap
  • Mastery of pedagogical and subject matter skills, including differentiation
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing standards-based instruction using Common Core Standards
  • Knowledge of formative assessment practices and data analysis to inform teaching and learning

 
 
 
 
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.
 
Reports To:  Principal or Associate Principal
 
Terms of Employment:  In accordance with the Fall River Educators' Association contract to reflect an extended workday of an average of 30 minutes per day for a contractual stipend $4,000.
