The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:
POSITION: ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Massachusetts license in English as a Second Language (ESL)
- At least 5 years of teaching experience in ESL
- Proficiency in English Language Assessments used for initial identification and monitoring of students (W-APT and MODEL)
- Knowledge of the current DESE Guidance document that identifies compliance requirements for the identification and reclassification of English learners
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with parents and all members of the teaching and administrative staff
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to district protocols for English learners
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, ensuring all students have access to the highest quality instruction, and closing the achievement gap
- Demonstrate culturally responsive teaching and competencies,
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and learning
POSITION SUMMARY: The role of this position is to ensure the proper identification, program placement, reclassification of English learners in Fall River Public Schools, and the monitoring of Formerly English learners (FEL) according to Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) compliance guidelines.
REPORTS TO: Director of English Language Learners
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following:
- Administer /oversee the initial identification and assessment process (K-12 & private schools in Fall River)
- Organize and supervise language assessment of incoming kindergartens and Pre-K
- Complete all necessary ELL documents as required by DESE, including ACCESS at district level
- Assess students for language proficiency data at the request of principals, coaches, and teachers
- Administer language proficiency/dominance assessment results and recommend appropriate placement
- Coordinate annual Language Assessment Team meeting process and SIMS documentation (with support of ELL Director)
- Coordinate monitoring of formerly English learners documentation, provide follow up support as needed
- Work with Special Education Department on language assessments of English learners
- Communicate with parents to report assessment results and recommend appropriate services
- Communicate with Parent Center (PACE) so that they can arrange and assign placement of students
- Attend State level meetings on DESE compliance guidelines and present changes needed to the district
- All other responsibilities as requested by the Director of English Learners
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Fall River Educator’s Association Contract. Continued employment is contingent on work performance, program need, and funding.
