The superintendent of schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public Schools.
Title:
Literacy Coach (elementary school level)
Qualifications:
- Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts educator license
- Candidates must meet the employment requirements as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). Candidates must demonstrate subject-matter competency in literacy through one of the following:
- A master’s degree or advanced coursework in English language arts or reading
- An undergraduate academic major in English language arts
- Successful completion of the Massachusetts test of Educator Licensure (MTEL) in English language arts in a grade level appropriate for the position
- An approved individual professional development plan with 80% of the professional development points resulting from professional development in
reading or English language arts
- English or reading certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
Preferred Additional qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience
- Experience in developing and providing professional development to teachers in content-specific pedagogy.
- Knowledge of educational improvement planning and data driven instruction.
Reports to:
School Principal
Job Goal:
To support and assist classroom teachers with content-specific pedagogy that effectively supports students meet the standards identified in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for English language arts.
Responsibilities:
- To collaborate with classroom teachers and the building principal to ensure that all students meet the learning standards described in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks/English language arts and measured by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System.
- To participate in ongoing district-based professional development designed to support district-based initiatives.
- To support the design and implementation of high quality professional development.
- To support the development and implementation of data driven School Improvement Plans.
- To maintain a working knowledge of current scientifically based research and literature related to effective standards-based English language arts/reading curricula, assessment and instructional practices.
