The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public Schools:

TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPERVISOR — HIGH SCHOOL

QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Certification in Special Education
  2. Master’s Degree in Education
  3. Minimum of three years supervisory experience in Special Education


REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Establish and maintain a continuum of services for students with special needs at the high school level.

  1. Monitor and supervise the program and/or transfer of special education students to insure least restrictive placement and access to general education curriculum.
  2. In conjunction with the Principal, monitor the implementation of Individual Education Plans.
  3. Oversee all compliance issues relative to State and Federal laws and regulation governing special education policies.
  4. In conjunction with the Principal and Office of Instruction, plan and implement staff development that addresses special education issues within the context of School Department Goals, Curriculum Frameworks, and Best Educational Practice.
  5. Coordinate multi-disciplinary team activity and meetings with Directors, Principals, Teachers, Ancillary Staff to ensure constructive communication and mutual support.
  6. Assign referrals to appropriate personnel and follow up on activities regarding assigned cases including the mediation and appeals process.
  7. Monitor all documentation required for special education programs at the high school level to keep Fall River in compliance with government regulations.
  8. In conjunction with the Principal, insure that IEP meetings are scheduled, organized, chaired and documented within mandated time lines.                                        
  9. Coordinate with other Supervisors and/or administrative staff the placement and service needs of students transitioning from middle to high or from in or out-of-district.
  10. Participate with other members of the Directors' administration team in planning and implementing management activities related to the general functioning of the Special Education Department
  11. Interpret the philosophy and practices of the Special Education programs to administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and community.
  12. Establish effective liaison with parents and community agencies serving Special Education students and families.
  1. Develop and monitor staff and student scheduling at the high school level.
  2. Keep current in field research and best practice.
  3. Assume any additional responsibilities and duties as deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Education.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
In accordance with the Fall River Administrators Association contract.
