Gateway Summer Academy Teachers (Talbot, Durfee)
The Gateways English Language Learner grant will fund a five-week summer academic/enrichment program July 2-August 6, 2018. The program will operate Mondays –Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m at Talbot Innovation School and 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m at Durfee High School.
The focus of the summer program will be to accelerate the acquisition of language for Ells through project-based learning. Students will be given multiple opportunities to practice language in activities and through field trips.
Position:
SEI Teachers in the Arts, ELA, math, science and social studies, STEAM
Qualifications:
- Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts educator license, must be SEI endorsed
- Experience teaching middle or high school students
- ESL license preferred
- Able to implement the curriculum for the summer program, and in so doing help to advance the ELLs’ language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Preferred Additional qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience
- Knowledge of educational improvement planning and data driven instruction.
Reports to:
Summer school coordinators
Responsibilities:
- provide appropriate instruction utilizing the summer academy’s curriculum, to English language learners grades 6 – 12
- participate in ongoing district-based professional development designed to support district-based initiatives
- assist in the collection of data to measure student growth
- attend mandatory orientation/PD meeting in June; date, time, and location TBA Location TBA
- work collegially and cooperatively with other staff and program coordinator
- other responsibilities as assigned by program coordinator such as chaperoning field trips
