Gateway Summer Academy Coordinators (1 Talbot, 1 Durfee)

 

The Gateways English Language Learner grant will fund a five-week summer academic/enrichment program July 2-August 6, 2018. The program coordinator will work will operate Mondays –Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m at Talbot Innovation School and 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m at Durfee High School. 

The focus of the summer program will be on accelerating the acquisition of language for English language learners through project-based learning. Students will have multiple opportunities to practice language in STEM activities and through field trips.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the recruitment of students, obtaining applications and permission slips in June    
  • Works with district administration to manage ongoing assessments of student progress, and coordinates all activities related to the statewide evaluation of the program and other enrichment programs.
  • Performs record keeping and general clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying, faxing, mailings) for the purpose of providing information and/or materials as needed
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and materials (e.g., forms, office supplies) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items for instructional leaders
  • Coordinates and collects parent permission slips for buses/field trips via existing system
  • Coordinates background checks for volunteers and school staff
  • Attends three-day staff orientation in June
  • Assists teachers with technological needs (i.e., access to Internet)
  • Strives to maintain a safe and supportive environment
  • Opens and closes building
  • Supports Academic Director, Instructional leaders/teachers, and Fall River teachers for the purpose of assisting with instructional functions
  • Assists the Academic Director with orientation and placement testing of all new students ensuring quality instruction and communicating with parents/guardians
  • Compiles data to complete final reporting in August. 

 Qualifications:

SEI Endorsed or ESL licensed, five years teaching experience. Experience coaching and acting as administrator preferred.

Salary

$31/hour for 200 hours from May until August
