The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:
Position: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT FOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE SERVICES
Job Goal: To assist the School Committee members and the Superintendent in developing and implementing effective practices and policies that helps meet the administrative needs of the Fall River School Committee and to support the school system’s overall goals. To prepare, organize and document materials for the school committee meetings, their information, and their official activities. To prepare minutes, discussions, reports or presentations, and record votes and deliberations from all school committee meetings.
Performance Responsibilities:
- To maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality related to work and information handled by the School Committee andLeadership Team members.
- To collect, process and maintain confidential data related to staff or students
- To manage, supervise and review all activities in support of the School Committee
- To provide administrative assistance to the School Committeeand Leadership Team in all matters of official correspondence; in the consolidation and formatting of the relevant areas of the annual budget; and in the generation of any periodic reports as needed by the committee or Superintendent for the purposes of the committee’s work.
- To work collaboratively with administrative and support staff in addressing responsibilities including school department planning, personnel policies and procedures, negotiations, management of grants, school department operations, evaluation, and other duties required by the Superintendent
- To help collect information, prepare reports and presentations required by the School Committee, United States Department of Education, Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Superintendent of Schools, and other agencies.
- To assist in the organization and preparation of legal information pertinent to the School Department or School Committee.
- To function as the point of contact for Public records requests, to address and prepare responses for records requests related to the School Department or the Committee, and to prepare confidential correspondence and documents.
- To assist the School Committee and Leadership Team in scheduling and coordinating meetings
- Any other duties as defined by the Supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years to five years of experience preferred of successful secretarial experience within a public or private organization's management office
- Demonstrated ability to collect, process and maintain confidential data related to staff and/or students
- Demonstrated experience with management and supervision of duties and personnel related administrative support activities
- Demonstrated ability to apply sound policies and procedures to executive office work, including maintaining confidentiality, coordinating multiple tasks, scheduling work efficiently, and communicating effectively with others
- Strong writing skills and full proficiency with business management software, and spreadsheet development and maintenance is required.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare official correspondence, organize information and generate periodic reports
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with others within a central management office

- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with staff, parents and others.
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.
Reports To:Office of the Superintendent or designee, evaluated by Superintendent in consultation with the School Committee
Supervises:Clerical Staff as assigned by Supervisor
Terms of Employment:Salary and benefits will be negotiated in accordance with experience and comparison to similar positions within the Fall River School Department.Flexible scheduling within eight hour framework.
Salary:Salary Range $50,000 - $65,000Position also includes stipend for scheduled evening meetings.
