The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System: Position:Re-engagement Specialist at the RESILIENCY PREPARATORY ACADEMY Job Description:To provide support and assistance to identified students at risk that will lead to academic success and high school graduation. Performance Responsibilities:
- Develop a strong working relationship with District High/Middle School to identify students who are atrisk of dropping out.
- Conduct home visits and attend coordinated events in the community to support student achievement
- Ensure students' smooth transition from social service system, juvenile detention and other high
schools to RPA.
- Meet in groups and individually with students to co-construct college and career goals and contracts.
- Provide Intensive Case Management/Support to Students and Families/Documentations.
- Provide after school college and career information workshops in collaboration with guidancecounselor.
- Observe target students in a variety of settings for purposes of both data collection and to provideconsultation to educational team members, regarding curriculum and instruction on support needs.
- Collaborate with school leaders, counselors, and teachers to develop systemic strategies to identify andsupport students.
- Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention using on line course recoverysoftware and other strategies that con prevent initial failures.
- Provide college and career goal mentoring and support services that assist students to identify,
develop and maintain progress toward college and career goals.
- Monitor students' progress in academics and works closely with teachers, re-engagement specialist
and administration to monitor student progress/attendance.
- Serve as a liaison for other support services that can assist the student.
- Assist students to problem solve and resolve conflicts that interfere with goal attainment.
- Develop strategies to support middle school students/high school.
- Coordinate and collaborate with agencies and community partners in identifying community-basedand/or work based opportunities and resources for students.
- Provide training to middle school and high school teachers on support measures that work withidentified youth.
- Maintain student records and meeting logs to document students' goal contracts.
- Prepare timely reports on student progress, challenges and achievements toward goal attainment,
and meeting graduation plans.
- Communicate regularly with parents of students identified as being at risk of not graduating.
- Help students identify barriers to graduation and create action plans to overcome barriers to meet
graduation goals.
- Work in collaboration with the gang unit, probation officers and in house attendance intervention
- Report to bus/terminal as needed/off-site parks to provide random check-in
- Any/all other duties assigned by Principal related to the educational planning of students ages 14-21.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a time-sensitive work environment;
- 4-5 years' experience working with at-risk youth.
- Ability to conference with students to analyze, develop, implement, student goals and action plans.
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.
